A Comprehensive Guide on Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs)
The year 2015 was phenomenal for technological innovations, particularly artificial intelligence (AI). Not only are machines getting more advanced, but we’re learning more about how to improve their performance. Everything is starting to make sense, and because of it, we see advances we’ve never imagined until now.
A lot of strides in the fields of Machine Learning (ML) and AI consist of new statistical models, but the majority of them are in the technology known as Artificial Neural Networks (ANN). If you’re aware of this technology, you may know that ANNs are a very robust model of how the human brain is structured. Before moving forward, you need to know that there is a huge difference between artificial neural networks and neural networks. Although the majority of individuals skip the artificial for the sake of conciseness, the word artificial was annexed to the phrase for people working in computational neurobiology to use the term neural network to refer to their discoveries.
ANNs have neurons that are nothing but units of calculations. The neurons in ANNs are connected by weighted values known as synapses. This means that a neuron will perform some kind of calculation when given a number…
