Artificial Intelligence is already shaping our present and future, in the previous article (https://fintelics.medium.com/do-we-already-live-in-an-ai-centric-world-ad4b5728e7a1) we saw the impact of artificial intelligence in Mark’s daily routine. AI is not limited to any one industry; it is so diverse that it has an array of applications in various areas. Let’s take another peek into Mark’s life and discover AI’s role in one of his ideal and amusing weekends.

Smart Phones

Mark is visiting his sister and her family in Montreal. He has decided to spend the whole weekend with them and his journey starts with an early morning flight. Once he is ready and having his breakfast, like a creature of habit he picks up his phone. The first thing he needs to do to access his phone is to unlock it and right there is a fascinating example of AI. When your phone uses your biometrics like face ID, it is actually using artificial intelligence to scan your face. The face ID in all Apple smartphones captures images in 3D. In order to do that it lights up the face with 30,000 invisible infrared dots. With machine learning algorithms it compares the scan with the stored details of your face to determine if it is the same person trying to unlock the phone.

Social Media
Right after unlocking his phone with face ID, he opens one of his many social media accounts. All social media accounts get updated on overnight activities through AI. Not only does AI personalize your feed, but artificial intelligence also enables friend suggestions, and identifying and filtering out fake news.

Aviation
Next, he drives to the airport using Google Maps enabled by AI to find the fastest route. The aviation industry has not escaped the AI revolution. The airports around the world use artificial intelligence to improve operational effectiveness, avoid expensive mistakes, and boost customer satisfaction.

Personal transportation
As Mark lands, his sister, Cathy, is waiting for his arrival in her smart car. Tesla and Waymo have already launched a fleet of semi-automatic vehicles on the road. Driverless cars are the next big thing that will revolutionize the transportation system. Artificial intelligence operates the car by collecting data from the vehicle’s cloud services, camera, radar, and GPS and produces control signals. All Tesla cars are connected and things that each car learns are then passed on to other cars through regular updates.

Food
Mark is happy to have reached his sister’s place and greets his young nephews. Their lunch has arrived, which Cathy ordered through a food delivery app. She could see when the food was ready at the restaurant, picked up by the delivery personnel, and about to be delivered. This is also made possible through AI.

Video Games
Mark and the kids love to play video games together. The video game industry was one of the early adopters of artificial intelligence. Games like PUBG or Fortnite start against a couple of AI-powered bots. In racing games, the player is actually racing against AI bots. Middle Earth is a series of games that evolve your AI-powered enemies based on your interaction with them and other elements.

Smart Home
Smart home devices are another area where AI has infiltrated. Google Assistant, Cortana, Alexa, Siri, or Bixby — these digital voice assistants have found homes in millions of households. They assist you with getting directions, finding a recipe to inquire what the weather is going to be for the day. All the devices use natural language processing and generators that are processed by AI to come up with the best answers. Cathy always checks the weather before heading out.

Taxi Apps
After an eventful weekend, it is time for Mark to head back home. He uses a taxi service to get to the airport. Apps like Uber and Lyft interpret scores of information through AI and thus help you navigate smoothly, find shortest routes, and get live traffic updates.
