Everything You Need to Know About Meta

Social media giant Facebook Inc.’s new name, Meta, references the metaverse — something that CEO Mark Zuckerberg is obsessed with. However, it has different meanings — and that can get complex, or even out of context.

In Portuguese and Spanish languages, it means “goal.” In Hebrew, Meta means “died,” pointing out a woman. It gets more awkward when used in Brazil — Facebook’s fourth-largest market — Meta can have a sexual undertone.

In any case, the metaverse that Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg is talking about is essentially a VR platform that users can leverage to congregate and communicate in digital settings.

For traders, the meaning gets even trickier. No longer just Facebook, the organization’s stock will start trading as MVRS starting December 1, 2021.

But now, why will it not begin trading in META? Well, see, that ticker’s already in use. An ETF named Roundhill Ball Metaverse ETF has already traded under META since its launch back in June.
