Machine Learning in Social Media

Social media is all around us. Its impact on this world can be comparable to that of fire. Over two decades have passed since its inception, and with that, the world today is more connected than any prior era or age.

Before social media, the only things that people could rely on were telephones, pagers, or even pigeons in olden times to communicate and mediate with each other. With the emergence of social media platforms such as Facebook, people have discovered a variety of ways through which they can communicate with one another.

What was initially a one-way communication process rapidly turned into a cross-communication channel. The importance of social media can be observed by its widespread use and participation, something that people are witness to globally. Nonetheless, the discussion of social media would be incomplete without mentioning its backbones, which are technologies such as artificial intelligence or machine learning. With the support provided by machine learning, social media has not only expanded in terms of reachability, but it has also opened up new possibilities across multiple platforms. A standard example of this can be seen in how social media is conventionally used. Although these sites were initially utilized as a way for people to communicate, they are now used for various purposes, such as communication, marketing, promoting, and advocacy.
